Well, we had another shut out this Friday night against the Parkview Panthers. We beat them last year for the first time at home and it was oh so sweet to go to the Big Organge Jungle and win again. Not only a win, but another shut out. That is 3 weeks in a row for us. This has certainly been an awesome year at Grayson, you can feel the presence of God on that field with those boys. They are playing with a lot of heart and so are all the coaches! This team certainly deserves a big win at the end. I was going to have a picture of the scoreboard, but I must say that Parkview shut down the scoreboard lights very quickly after the game! It was an upset for them especially since it was their homecoming. Here is one of the articles from the AJC.
Congratulations Rams!!!
Grayson hands Parkview homecoming horror in shutoutRam tough: Panthers held to 77 yards before homecoming crowd By CURTIS BUNNThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionPublished on: 10/13/07
Grayson continued its season of affirmation Friday with another impressive victory over another recent AAAAA champion. This time, once-dominant Parkview fell to the Rams' efficient offense and staunch defense. And at homecoming, no less.
The Big Orange Jungle was a little blue after Grayson's decisive 19-0 victory — the first region loss for the Panthers to someone other than Brookwood in "who knows when," Grayson coach Mickey Conn said.place at 3-0 in Region 8-AAAAA with Brookwood, which slammed Meadowcreek Friday.
Unlike their 17-14 win over last year's co-champion Peachtree Ridge, the Rams did not have to rely on late-game heroics. Rather, they controlled the game from the outset in all facets. "You outplayed even my expectations," Conn told his team afterward.
Parkview's, too. The Panthers' offense mustered just 19 yards after halftime, 77 for the game.
"We play together as one," said defensive lineman Quantarious Smith, who had several bone-jarring tackles. "I expected us to be this good. From the summer workouts, you could see we were going to be tough."
Anyone could see that it could have been worse for Parkview. When quarterback Tyler Horne connected with receiver Sean Adegbola for a 38-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, it ended a series of wasted opportunities due to penalties.
Chandler Priest's 31-yard run on third down set up the scoring play that proved enough points for the Rams' tough defense to protect.
For good measure, Priest burst 50 yards up the middle for a third-quarter touchdown and 12-0 advantage, and Matt Brock added a 12-yard score early in the fourth. For his efforts, he was awarded the game ball by Conn.
Others were worthy candidates, too. Kicker Josh Pinkerson, who joined the squad off the soccer team, was run over but he made a touchdown-saving tackle. "Welcome to football," Conn joked to Pinkerson.
The Grayson offensive line again pounded its foe into submission. The defensive front, led by Smith and Rammell Lewis, was fierce. Linebackers Tristan Strong and Michael Skogen swarmed the ball.
The Rams dominated from the start, even as penalties stunted drives and two missed field goals kept the game a scoreless tie. But it was seemingly inevitable that Grayson would prevail.
"How good is our defense?" Smith said. "Championship good."
