Memorial Day Vacation

We started our Memorial Day weekend early this year. With Michael off work, we checked Brooke out of school on Wednesday (the last day) at lunch and headed for south Alabama! We haven't gone down and stayed for almost a week in several years, so it was such a nice visit and the kids loved it too!
We got there late afternoon, so that was nice for a change, the kids could run around and play before bedtime. They were very ready to get out of the van. Logan kept saying "I want to go to Papa's house", which was really the fishing camp.
We woke up Thursday morning and decided to go to Gulf Shores that day to let the kids play at the beach for a little while. First Brooke woke up and went to sing Happy Bithday to Nana! We rode down to Daphne first and visited with Nanan and Paran (Michael's grandparents), then went to eat lunch at my favorite seafood restaurant "The Original Oyster House" at Gulf Shores. Nothing like good ole Gulf shrimp! Then we headed to the beach. The waves were pretty bad and the water freeeeezzzzzzing. It was kind of an overcast, but still nice on that beautiful white beach. Logan of course had nothing to do with the sand once it got in his shoes and Brooke just ran all over the beach and water, until....she got stung by a jellyfish. That ended the day, which was really cut short, but Logan wasn't that crazy about it anyhow. I forgot to get a picture of her sting (imagine that!), we got packed up and went to the showers. The lady that handles the soda bar gave us a bottle of vinegar to spray on the sting and it took the poison right out. The bumps started going away pretty quick too. Good thing to know to keep around when you go to the beach!
Logan had some cute saying all week again, and of course I don't remember them all. There is one that was so funny, this was one morning he wanted Cheese Puffs for breakfast and we said he had to eat some breakfast casserole. Well, when he finished that he was pointing to the cheese puffs. I looked at Michael and said "you weren't planning on giving him cheese puffs for breakfast were you?" and before he could even answer me, Logan said "yes he was!" So, Logan got cheese puffs for breakfast, thank goodness he was on vacation! Brooke was very good all week too. She acted so much like I did as a little girl, always wanting to do what the guys are doing and help out with anything possible. She is so good at that and has really blossomed with her independance. No more shyness for her!
The kids playing outside The Original Oyster House
I just love this beach, so beautiful even on a cloudy day!
There were not many brave soles to get in the ice cold water!
Logan and Nana playing with the shells and of course counting them all!
Still not brave enough yet!
I will just sit here and dig in the sand from the blanket!
Brooke just observing her surroundings.
Papa and Michael weren't so brave to get in the water this time either!
Logan tanning! LOL!
This was from Friday afternoon, Logan was exhausted. We never got to bed before 10pm any night, and he only got about 2 naps all week too. Friday, Michael and Papa worked on the boat shed trying to get it leveled up so Papa can put a new roof on it later. The rain came in that afternoon also and flooded. The power went off for several hours so we just played a little inside and in between the rain Brooke would go out and play in the puddles.
This was hiliarious! While the lights were out, Logan got the big flash light and wanted to see in Nana's mouth, nose, ears, eyes, etc. Then she did it to him and showed the light going through his ears, he could not figure this one out!
Inspecting Logan's throat!
Now the ears!
Whatcha got in there Nana?? We were suppose to go to the Bay Bears minor league baseball game Friday night, but since the power was out and raining, we decided to wait until Saturday night. Good thing, they ended up calling the game and we got to watch a double header for the price of one!
Brooke trying to wake up Saturday morning.
Logan and Papa playing trains. They had to do that all week! That was all Logan wanted to do was play trains.
At the Bay Bears game! Hot and sweaty! Brooke was waiting on her peanuts that Daddy went to get!
Logan finally happy! He fell asleep in the van on the way down and when he woke up, let's just say he did not get his nap in! I held him the whole time until he finally woke up. When he saw Brooke with peanuts, he decided he was hungry and wanted a hot dog. This was the funniest site watching him eat that thing. He ate it from the top and stuffed about 1/4 of the hot dog in his mouth at once, then ate the bun. He really enjoyed it, then wanted another one. He only got the one! After that he was in a much better mood and started playing some.
There's Teddy!
Feeling good now!
Almost time to go home and get in bed. It ended up being another late night, but we had a ball!
Sunday: fishing off the dock and it was hot....We were going over to Gary's camp for a birthday celebration for Grandma Moss, Ray and Nana so we just fished off the dock that morning. Logan was getting pretty sleepy by then too, so he had to get a much needed nap!
Brooke doing some good fishing!
We always can catch some brim (that may not be how you spell the fish) off of Nana and Papa's fishing dock and the kids love it!
Logan and Brooke keeping Nana very busy baiting hooks!
Waiting...
And Waiting....
And, "I am tired of waiting"!
Finally, Logan got one, but when the fish started jumping Logan gave the pole to Nana and took off running. Not a big fan of flipping fish!
"Not Me"!
Finally, I caught something. Even if it was a twig!
Miss Priss casting her rod-n-reel out there! She got very good at this.
Logan just would drop it then reel it back in, over and over. Those fish never had a chance to bite the cricket!
Got another one!
Aunt Ann holding on to Carmann! What a sweetie! The kids just loved all over her.
Brooke trying to decide if she wants to touch it or not, maybe not! It was funny on Friday Michael and Papa worked on the boat shed some and there was a snake that kept coming around. I was flipping out to say the least and Brooke just said "Mama, it is just a snake. Quit acting like that!" All of the sudden she was Miss Brave Soilder!
I guess she was fishing for rocks?? Who knows?
Papa and Logan waiting again.
Playing with Carmann

Brooke was going out with the guys to check on the trot line!
Monday: playing in a pool next door at some friends camp. Logan wanted nothing to do with getting in the pool, just to splash the girls!
Then, he fell over into the pool and got a little wetter than he wanted!
What to do???? It's cold Daddy!
Here comes the rain...look out Brooke!
I'll stick to just splashing!
Ok, this was too funny. We sat down to a bite to eat for supper Monday night and Logan somehow got talking about dinosaur's. Then him and Nana were talking about how dinosaur's tasted like chicken. He was getting so tickled and so were we! You can watch the video in the post below. He kept us laughing all week!
Here is some of that dinosaur that tastes like chicken! Brooke was finishing up some chicken we had cooked earlier in the weekend!
One last boat trip to check the trot line before getting bathes and going home! We had a great time Nana and Papa, thanks for having us! We got home around 8:30 - 9:00pm Tuesday night with Logan running a 101.6 fever and not feeling good. Then Mama woke up in the middle of the night sick with one of these stomach viruses going around. YUK way to end the weekend and to start work the next day!
