Grayson is still undefeated for this season and still playing strong for another week closer to the State Championship game in the GA Dome. We came out Friday night and took on the #1 team in the state and #3 or #4 team in the Nation and won 17 - 7. What an awesome win for our team.
I do have to say that their fans and players were some of the worst we have seen in their attitudes and rude comments all night. It was a sweet victory for our guys who give praise to God each week for what He is doing on the field. Toward the end of the game, the Lowndes players started pushing on the field which cleared their sideline. What class??? The great thing about our team is that the coaches have taught our kids what to do in one of those situations to keep them from getting suspended to play the next week. What if Lowndes happen to come back and win the game?? They would have had no one to play the next week due to their ignorance on the field and lack of class. I guess that is why our guys will see one more week of football and they will not.
We played a great game and we are so proud of those guys! Way to go RAMS and way to stand up for your community and give everyone something to be proud of! We love you guys!
Here is the article in the AJC and below that will be the article from the Valdosta Daily Times, which says that both teams cleared the sidelines during the scuff. Our guys all headed back to the sidelines to get away from a fight!
Grayson stuns defending champion Lowndes
Pint-sized Pemberton leads Rams to giant-sized upset

A few things ended in the Class AAAAA quarterfinals at Britt-Moody Field in Loganville on Friday.
At the top of the list is Lowndes’ attempt to win consecutive AAAAA state titles and its 17-game playoff winning streak — both are now history. But one thing that will live on for at least one more week is Grayson’s unwavering confidence in Ean Pemberton.
The 5-foot-3, 135-pound back rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 4 Grayson to a 17-7 upset victory against No. 1 Lowndes, pushing the Rams into the state semifinals for the first time in school history.
“We just shocked the world, baby,” Grayson coach Mickey Conn told his team afterward. “You’re true winners in every sense of the word.”
Leading 10-7 on Austin Clark’s 36-yard field goal early in the third quarter, Grayson (13-0) embarked on a 16-play fourth-quarter drive that lasted more than eight minutes, capped by Pemberton’s second touchdown run of the night with a minute left that effectively ended Lowndes’ (12-1) attempt at consecutive state titles. The Vikings have won three of the last four Class AAAAA championships.
“Pemberton just did his thing,” Conn said. “He was awesome. It was no secret what we were trying to do; we just went right at them.”
While the offense dominated time of possession (31:49 of 48 minutes), the Rams gave up one big play — Florida commitment Greg Reid’s 81-yard touchdown run that put the Vikings ahead 7-0 midway through the second quarter — but otherwise shut down an offense that came in averaging nearly 37 points per game.
“I think we need to brag on our defense,” Conn said. “The defense was great.”
Both teams missed golden opportunities early. Grayson kept the ball almost exclusively on the ground on the game’s opening drive, rushing 13 times and eating up
7:03 of the clock, but Patrick Santry’s 42-yard field goal attempt was wide left. Deep in Grayson territory on the ensuing possession, Lowndes quarterback Tyler Hunter fumbled the snap, keeping the game scoreless late in the first quarter.
After Reid’s long run, Grayson responded immediately by letting Pemberton handle the workload. Pemberton completed a 19-yard halfback pass to Herrell Gunn on a crucial third down and, with 2 minutes remaining in the first half, ran 38 yards for the tying touchdown.

Vikings stunned, 17-7Grayson ends Vikings’ season, 26-game winning streak FridayBy Adam MacDonald
LOGANVILLE — The Grayson Rams scored 17 unanswered points and ended the Lowndes Vikings’ season with a shocking 17-7 win Friday at Britt-Moody Field.
Leading 10-7 early in the fourth quarter, the Rams used an epic 85-yard touchdown drive to close out the Vikings’ hope of winning back-to-back state championships.
The clinching drive started on the Grayson 20-yard line. The Rams appeared to be satisfied with just trying to run the clock out, running the first two plays for minus-5 yards. Facing a third-and-15, the Rams handed the ball off to running back Ean Pemberton, who broke through a tackle and ran for 28 yards and the first down. Grayson tacked on three more first downs on the drive, and on fourth-and-1 with 1:23 to go, Pemberton raced to the outside and ran in for a touchdown making it 17-7 Grayson with 1:13 left in the game.
The drive was a microcosm of the entire game. Grayson was able to move the ball on offense when it needed to, and the Vikings failed to come up with the big play they have always seemed to get in the past.
On offense, the Vikings couldn’t get anything going. Lowndes registered just two first downs the entire game. They only tallied 188 yards of total offense, and that included runs of 58, 81 and 47 yards by Greg Reid. Reid finished the game with 170 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Lowndes only ran 27 plays, compared to Grayson’s 61. The Rams also dominated Lowndes in time of possession, 34 minutes to 14 minutes.
Lowndes got on the board first in the second quarter. After a Grayson punt, the Vikings took over at their own 19-yard line. On the next play, Reid burst to the outside and was sprung for an 81-yard touchdown by Aaron Winston’s block. The extra point gave Lowndes a 7-0 lead.
Grayson answered right back on its next drive. The Rams opened up the playbook and called for a halfback pass. Pemberton executed the pass to perfection to receiver Herrell Gunn for a pickup of 25 yards. The play sparked the offense, and two plays later, Pemberton broke through the line and ran for a 38-yard touchdown that tied the game, 7-7.
The score remained 7-7 until early in the third quarter. The Rams forced the Vikings back on their first possession of the second half and gained good field position at Lowndes’ 45-yard line after a punt. Grayson’s drive stalled after picking up 26 yards and the Rams called on Austin Clark, who booted a 36-yard field goal to give Grayson its first lead at 10-7.
The Vikings had a golden opportunity on their next drive, but failed to capitalize. A 47-yard run by Reid put Lowndes at Grayson’s 33-yard line, but two plays later, a bad snap from the shotgun bounced away from Reid, who was forced to pick it up at his own 44. The play went for a 23-yard loss and the Vikings had to punt.
The Vikings had one more good chance to get it right on offense on their next drive, but on third-and-10, quarterback Khary Franklin’s pass sailed just over the head of a wide open Winston.
The ensuing punt was fielded by Grayson and that began the clock-killing drive.
Lowndes got the ball back one last time trailing 17-7, but it was too late and the Vikings turned it over on downs.
After the fourth down play, frustration boiled over between the two teams, who had banged on each other hard all night, and a majority of both sidelines emptied on the field. Coaches, officials and law enforcement quickly broke up the melee before things got out of control.
After Grayson took a knee, the Vikings were wisely told by their coaches to go to the locker room instead of meeting with Grayson at midfield for the postgame handshake. The two coaching staffs did exchange handshakes after the game.
Grayson ended up with 262 yards of total offense. Pemberton carried the ball 35 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns.
For the Vikings, Telvin Smith had 11 tackles, Ridge Spivey had 10 tackles, and Gerald Demps and Michael Copeland had seven tackles each.
The loss snaps the Vikings’ 26-game winning streak. Grayson will move on to play Peachtree Ridge in the state semifinals next Friday.
