As I mentioned in my earlier post, Michael gave up his football/track coaching career back after the 2016 State Championship and change in coaching staff again and boy was the timing perfect - thank you God for that nudge! After giving up his whistle and after Covid hit the US shutting everything down in 2020, he grabbed his guitar again. I can't tell you how happy this made me to hear music again and his voice. Granted it was a little out of tune at first, but it did not take him long to get it back into shape. His voice is one of the things that drew me to him 26 years ago.
Once things started opening back up here in GA, he started trying to take his music/voice to the people outside of Facebook and it was a slow start in the beginning and we thought if we could just make a little extra money here and there that would be great. Now it's really opening up better and he has gotten some things locally along with going up to Hartwell, GA (thanks to some good friends of ours). So we are now seeing that the extra income can help make actual payments on things - once Michael gets all of his new toys bought. (-;
Just last week, he played at two of our favorite local joints. On Cinco de mayo he played at Southern Brewing Co - Monroe Taproom and boy was that a fun night with an awesome crowd. They did not disappoint and the crowd participation makes it that much more fun! Then, turned around on Thursday and played Silver Queen. Again, the crowd was not huge, but they did not disappoint either. We were raising money that night to help out our friends Drew and Nicole Cummings after Drew had a terrible accident with his table saw, putting him out of work for a while, but trying to actually raise money to help them buy a SawStop to keep him safe when he can return to work. Man did the crowd pull through for them that night, we are so blessed with good people in our town. Then we finished off the week with him playing back at Southern Brewing Co. Monroe Taproom on Saturday night. The crowd was definitely thinner than normal for a weekend, however, after Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day weekend, it was expected. We still had a great time.
He will begin playing at our local farmer's market here in Monroe next Saturday and we take it back up to Hartwell this Saturday night. Now that the kids are older, we have been able to enjoy getting back out and doing these gigs. I can't wait until Logan wants to play, I love to hear him play when he does. He's at the age that it's not top on his list of things to do though, in due time!
